Siddarth, called Sid shares the story of his first crush withMatrimony Xpress “I must have been in Class IX then. There was this girl in Class VIII who lived in my neighbourhood. We used to board the same bus to school and back. She used to wear a pair of thick-rimmed glasses, braces and had well-oiled hair. She would shyly greet me with a hi, everyday and I used to return it with a condescending senior schoolmate, “hello”.

She was very quite, would ask shy questions when we walked to school together, which was a 15 minute walk from the bus stand. I would always reply, exaggerating with boyish boastfulness about my classroom antics or how I outwitted the geography teacher by asking doubts she could not answer or how the Maths teacher was impressed with the quickest method I had figured (which actually was my big brother’s idea) to solve a lengthy math sum.I kind of liked her attentiveness and sometimes I found myself shedding the “hero” garb and confiding to her about peer pressure, about sibling rivalry and the tiff I had with my dad and even about the girl in class I had a secret crush on (of course I conveniently forgot to mention that it was the case with every other guy in class) We said our usual goodbyes for the summer and I started my Xth Class and she her IX th. I was looking forward to meet my quiet companion on the first day of another fresh year at school.

I searched in every seat after I boarded the bus but could not find her. Then a girl smiling brightly and waving for me to come and sit by her caught my attention. I was initially taken aback and double-checked to see if anyone was standing behind me.

The girl’s face was oddly familiar and my curiosity piqued, I went towards her for a closer look. Then it hit me, glasses gone and instead, I saw a pair of the most beautifully shaped eyes I ever saw. Braces gone, her teeth were sparkling in a wide smile. Her always tightly braided hair was now cascading around her and falling just short of her shoulders. It was during these moments that my heart flipped, I was totally bowled over by the fond look in her beautiful eyes and cupid’s aim struck me for the first time.”

All of us go through this phase in our lives like Siddarth, when the heart catapults itself towards a strong love like emotion. Your first experience with it generally, is the most memorable, with shades of innocence, vulnerability and complete abandon.
