But as the first guests enter, our suggestion is start with good entrees as they always make a first and lasting impression. Here are some quick and great recipes that make for some wonderful starters.

Baby Potatoes with cheese

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Total cooking time: 30 minutes
Makes 30

30 baby new potatoes (see note)
1 cup cream
2 tbsp cottage cheese
2 tbsp cheese

1. Prick the potatoes with a fork and then place them on an oven tray. Bake for 30 minutes, or until tender. Cool to room temperature.
2. Cut a large cross in the top of each potato. Squeeze out the
insides. Scoop in the cheese, and the cream and refill it. Bake in oven for another ten minutes, till the cheese melts.
3. Serve with mustard sauce.

Deep-fried Cheese Sandwiches

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Total cooking time: 5 minutes each batch
Makes about 40

20 slices of bread
1/3 cup of mustard sauce
Cheese, sliced oil, for frying plain flour, for dusting 3 eggs, beaten

1. Remove crusts from bread. Spread slices with mustard, place a slice of cheese on top, and then finish with another bread slice.

2. Heat oil in a frying pan. Dust sandwiches lightly all over with
flour, dip quickly into the beaten egg.

3. Cook the sandwiches on both sides until golden; drain on paper towels. Cut into quarters. Serve hot.

Honey-soy Chicken Wings

Preparation time: 15 minutes + 2 hours refrigeration
Total cooking time: 40 minutes
Makes 12

12 chicken wings (approximately 1.2 kg or 2.1/2 lb)
2 tablespoons soy sauce
cup tomato sauce
cup honey
1 tablespoon vinegar
2 cloves garlic, crushed
2 tablespoons sesame seeds oil

1. Wipe chicken wings and pat dry with paper towels. Tuck wings tips to underside. Mix soy sauce, tomato sauce, honey, vinegar, garlic, sesame seeds, and oil in a large bowl.

2. Add the chicken; mix well to coat. Refrigerate, covered, for at least 2 hours, turning the wings occasionally.

3. Drain chicken and discard the marinade. Deep fry. Serve hot.

Nuts and Popcorn

Preparation time: 15 minutes
Total cooking time: about 5 minutes
Serves 4
100 g butter-flavoured popping corn
2 tablespoons oil
1 cup cashews
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1 tablespoon cumin seeds
1 tablespoon coriander seeds
1 teaspoon dried chilli flakes
1 tablespoon paprika
cup grated Parmesan cheese

1. Prepare popcorn as directed on packet, then distribute between two serving bowls. Heat the oil in a medium pan, add the almonds and cook over moderate heat until lightly toasted. Add cashews, seeds, chilli flakes and paprika and stir over heat for about 1 minute or until aromatic.

2. Remove from heat, add the cheese and sprinkle over the popcorn. Set aside to cool before serving.(INFS)
