She is the screen scorcher who sets the temperatures soaring with her screen presence. She is a former Femina Miss India Universe 2002, who has dabbled in a variety of professions before hitting the big time on the silver screen. From being a beauty queen to model and acting on Television in her debut serial ‘Rajdhani’, NEHA DHUPIA has done it all in a short time span. Her svelte figure, flawless complexion and sex appeal have fetched her major ads like Gillette, Pepsi, Reebok and Maruti to name a few. In a short span of time, she has come a long way and got herself noticed by the media and the public alike. She caught the attention of her peers in the film industry, the masses and the scribes with her famous quote, ‘Only sex and Shahrukh Khan sell in Bollywood’ which soon became a much quoted quote all over. With movies like Qayamat with Ajay Devgan and Sunil Shetty and skin flick Julie where she played a call girl, under her belt, this Cochin born Naval officer’s daughter has certainly proved that she is made up of more than just modelling and skin show through her recent spate of films. She chats with Rinku Gupta about her current crop of films, what sort of roles she likes doing and about the mysterious perfect partner in her life…

RG: You did Kya Kool Hain Hum, a comedy with Tushar Kapoor and Ritesh Deshmukh, which did well. But in the past, you have done skin flicks like Julie with several bold scenes and kisses and Siskiyan. Do you think the rage of skin flicks is over?
ND: In films, it’s a vicious cycle. The time for skin flicks is certainly gone right now and different types of films are being made. I am enjoying the current trend in the movies that I am doing.RG: You were Femina Ms India Universe in 2002. Later you took to modelling before joining films. Do you miss your days as a model or do you prefer doing films?
ND: Well, those were memorable days in my life but I don’t miss the modelling scene or anything. I don’t mind going on the ramp once in a while even now. But I definitely prefer doing films.

RG: What is so special about doing films?
ND: Well, as a model, you are promoting some one else’s products and helping them to make it big. As an actor in films, you are at center stage and you are showcasing and promoting your own talent. In a way, you are your own product of promotion. That makes you feel good and shows you to your own advantage.

RG: You have for long been known for your sexy image. Are you shedding that and doing other kinds of roles with your recent and current crop of films?
ND: Well yes, I have done very varied roles of late. Kya Kool Hain Hum was a comedy and did very well. I enjoyed doing Garam Masala with director Priyadarshan. I just love his work. He is a great director with a great penchant for comedy. Chup Chupke was enjoyable too. ‘Ek Chalis Ki last Local’ with Abhay Deol is for a different kind of audience. Then there is Kumar Sanu’s Utthan, again a different role. So yes, there is quite a variety of roles and directors I am working with now.

RG: A lot of actors are working in Southern films right now, from Amitabh in a Kannada film to Katrina, Mandira and others in other regional language films. Would you be interested in doing a south film too?
ND: I would love to do a south film. The cinema scene down south is really professional. I would love to be a part of a regional project.

RG: You are young, attractive and single apart from being successful. What does it take for someone like you to be attracted to someone of the opposite sex? Do you have a long list of qualities for your dream man?

ND: I don’t have any one definition or list of things I would like in my dream man. It’s very difficult to pin down the attraction to just one of two factors. I may want one thing and he may have other good qualities that I may find equally attractive. So I feel its best not to define anything in particular. Besides, there are so many things one could find attractive so it could be a long list!

RG: Well you are not telling us much are you!
ND: Maybe not, but I would like to tell you one thing! I have found my dream man in real life. But don’t ask me for his name!

RG: Congrats! That’s great! But can you at least tell us a few things about him now that you have aroused our curiosity?

ND: All I can say is that he is someone with whom I connect at every level. From the emotional to the mental and the physical levels, we connect perfectly!
