VeyilFilm :VEYIL

Starring : Pasupathy, Bharat, G M Kumar, Sriya Reddy, Priyanka , Bhavna

Director: G. Vasanthabalan

S Pictures film directed by Vasanthabalan, “Veyil” can be said to be amongst the few good movies of 2006 and certainly not a movie to be missed by movie buffs.

The story revolves around two brothers played by Pasupathy and Bharath who are the closest of friends as well. Pasupathy however runs away from home as a teenager when he is caught for seeing a movie and severaly punished under the sun with his hands tied. Unable to bear the humiliation and pain, he steals the savings and jewels of his family and runs away to turn into a projector assistant in a cinema hall.

Here he meets Priyanka and the duo fall in love but their love meets a tragic end when she dies. Heartbroken, he returns to his village, now a grown man and meets him family. His father refuses to take him in and his sisters disown him too but his brother who is now a successful entrepreneur loves him just the same and welcomes him.

Sriya Reddy plays his childhood sweetheart who has now left her husband and has a small daughter. She is the only one who understands Pasupathy’s pain and heartbreak at not being fully accepted by the family he loves. What happens ultimately to him and how he protects his family and proves his love for them forms the rest of the film.

The film moves you on every level with Pasupathy clearly stealing the show in every frame, right from playing the passionate lover to the repentant son and loving brother. Some great scenes give him ample scope to prove his mettle once again and he is one actor to watch out for in coming years. Bharat as the firebrand, volatile brother is a good foil and the rest of the female cast perform adequately with Priyanka making a good debut with this film. Sriya in a non-glam role is a surprise performer.

The music by G V Prakash Kumar is interesting and the title song Veyilodu Vilaiyadi is both a foot tapping number and also makes for some fantastic visuals setting the mood of the story. The cinematography is excellent in some scenes, especially in the opening one where the protagonist is shown pursuing the villains on a rainy night. The atmosphere of the villages and surrounding small towns is well captured in the film giving it a flavour all of its own. The film is all about human emotions and there is no mindless violence and sleaze so common in cinema today.

All in all, an extremely watchable and memorable film surely not to be missed !
