Can a book really change your lifeI’ve always wondered whether there is a standard formula for success. I mean once you have all the ingredients like talent, hard work, determination and all that in place, is success assured? Apparently not, I discovered, from what 55 celebrities (from all walks of life), had to say in the book YOU’VE GOT TO READ THIS BOOK! This is not just a book about those 55 people as much as the book that transformed their life forever.

You have the award winning actress Catherine Oxenberg, who shares her experience about how The Power Of One, a work of fiction, gave her a new perspective on life. The Power of One is the story of a young boy, Peekay who while  traveling home alone from boarding school is befriended by Hoppie, the conductor on the train, who is also a champion boxer. This interaction defines who Peekay becomes as an adult, highlighting the power one human being can have in a person’s life.

The story that fascinated me revolves around Farrah Gray, the author of Reallionaire: Nine Steps to Becoming Rich from the Inside Out. A millionaire at 14, Farrah came across The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra when he had already achieved success. From Chopra he learnt that there are laws governing life and the universe and you have to cooperate with them to be successful. It figured that one had to pay more attention to one’s inner world even as the outer world gets taken care of.

Louise Hay, whose books I have immensely enjoyed reading, too found her moment of inspiration at a crucial point in life. It came in the form of  Florence Shinn’s book, The Game of Life and How to Play It.  Florence was a deep believer in the power of thought and word to manifest one’s desires. Today we call this the power of affirmation!

Gary Heavin, founder and CEO of  Curves, the world’s largest fitness franchise was captivated by Pat Roberston’s The Secret Kingdom. At age 40, when he had no money, credit and no investors, he was motivated to build a huge business empire.

‘You’ve got to read this book’ abounds with inspirational examples of books that prove to be turning points in 55 great lives. There are many names here that you will recognize,  amongst them being, Stephen Covey, Bernie Siegel, Jack Canfield and Bob Young! Perhaps all that our lives need is that one special book to catapult us to success! Who knows?

How very true that despite all hardwork, sincerity, honesty and what have you, success does not always come your way.You see people who are half as much as you getting all the success and limelight. I think personally it has to do with Karma. As you sow so shall you reap, if not in this life then the next life.

Keep up the good work and reviews Jaya

:biggrin_wp: TO THOSE WHO SEEK LOADS OF ENERGY AND WANT TO KEEP FRESH ALL DAY AND DESTRESS INSTANTLY READ THIS NOW OR NEVER!!!!! COME ON I DARE YOU TO READ THIS ONE..WARNING REQUIRES PATIENCE AS IT IS LOONG BUT JUST MIGHT HELP….U CAN FINISH READING THIS IN 15 MINUTES APPROXIMATELY..AND IF YOU TRY THIS I ASSURE YOU YOU JUST MIGHT FEEL BETTER AT WORK AND MORE YOUNGER……TOO… LIKE A TORNADO…

Hi there, my name is Vibhas. Vibhas Mehta I believe that one has to keep on moving and one has to learn from ones mistakes and it is never too late to start anything in life or to make a new career move or change your life to go in new direction!!!

I read a lot of self help and inspirational books non fiction mostly and despite some career setbacks in life from which I am trying to learn and despite some success, which one should not let go in the head, I am also searching for the road to excel in what i do.

It is nessecary to fight back from defeat, otherwise who will pick you up if you dont even try? But even if you try a little there will be lots of hands ready to lift you to new heights….

I myself am struggling with my career, and have recently won some certificates and awards at work place which I cherish…but the fight has just begun… the road of excellence is always under construction….

Yesterday I saw a movie at the DT Megamall called the pursuit of happiness based on true life story of a struggler who is going places (yes he is still alive and kicking now in real life. The film stars Will Smith with a little bit of comedy thrown in….but it is a good inspiring movie worth the watch… I plan to watch it again…

Movies, internet sites and books are a good way to inspire oneself especialy when something goes wrong or does not turn out to be the way you expected, they all give you a new insight into your unsolved rubic cube/puzzle of life.

It refreshes you and inspires you to try again. I plan to see this movie again….So make it a habit to read something before going to bed. like i do…it can change the way you think or look at things and see the larger picture…..

For those who try too hard like myself a word from myside….try harder but dont let the pressure get on you…learn to relax while trying to achieve your goals or daily tasks…..enjoy your work and turn the pressure into excitement and take regular 15 minute breaks to refresh yourself and keep you going at it…then you will feel like going on and on and on like Duracell,,, by the way that is the title my colleague gave me my friends call me Duracell….as I was able to go on and on and on with regular breaks and was working 13 hours a day almost 7 days a week coming on weekends as well and competing with my colleagues for top collections as I was working in a collections based process in an international BPO. I did not want to brag i hope i do not sound bragging, just wanted to share something with you… some colleagues say i manage to look fresh despite working long hours simple….do not think about the 13 hours think 2 hours then a break then next two hours then a break next 2 hours then a refreshing coffee breaks then another 2 hours then maybe a stroll outside the work area another 2 hours then maybe you can have a puff if you smoke.. then in your next break you can wash your face with cool water…or have some snacks or call up someone who encourages you….take another round of the building ….wear bright colours at work …….these are the various ways to refresh yourself and keep yourself energized like a powerhouse……REMEMBER ITS ALL IN THE MIND IF THE MIND IS TIRED SO ARE YOU OTHERWISE U TOO CAN BECOME THE DURACELL MY FRIENDS CALL ME….THEY ASK ME DO YOU EVER GIVE UP???????? GOT THE IDEA????? BEST OF LUCK TRY IT OUT CHECK IT OUT!!! AND OFFCOURSE LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKED!!!

I think it is either one of the first three books that you read, or a book that you come across at some critical stage of life, that gives it a turn. I remember “How to win friends and influence people” got me out and talking with people around. It taught me a lot of how people work, what’s important to them, and that has helped me greatly.

But the book that really changed my life is Robin Sharma’s “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari”. There were lot of ups and downs in life when I read the book, and it got me to a whole new level.

It’s not you who reads the book, it’s the book that works on you!

    Which book changed your life?

  7. 7 GOVIND KUMAR

  9. 9 Shijil

Great to see so many personas of my type over here :) and eager to get a copy of this book.

Inspirational speeches and books by Wayne Dyer, Robin Sharma, Deepak Chopra etc has been my company these days. And what I understood is that they all wanted to convey the same message and that is..

“You should be the MASTER of your MIND”

None will come to help you unless you help yourself.
Every proplem you face is created in your mind and the solution to those problems should be also come from your mind.
What makes you different from others is your thoughts and your thoughts is your identity.

Go ahead folks good luck and like Robin Sharma quotes

“Live every day like the last day of your Life”

    Luv

    M&M (Master of your Mind)
You are on the driving seat and know when to pass and when to overtake.Similarly, you are driving your mind and see, check and direct your mind in the wright direction.

You have to help yourself and take care of yourself and know what is good or bad.Others may give you suggestions if you are luck enough to have True friends who love you and are not jelous of your accomplishments but, still taking there suggesstions and your interest, What To Do in Life? What To be ? How to Achieve? Will ultimately matter to take the correct path to success.

A book alone can not change anybody’s life but one can have Vision by reading Inspirational Books.By not giving a sorce of this book unnecessory curiosity has been created which is not a proper attitude……Nayanbhai

I fully agree with what Vibhas writes. Books really help you at times when nothing else seems to work. It speaks a silent language which helps you understand things in a clearer persepctive. I too work in a high pressure collection team and understand that how important a break is for you. It rekindles your energy & prevents you from getting stressed out.

I have also heard a lot about the movie ‘The pursuit of happiness” and planning to watch it. Though I rarely see English Movies. I have read lots and lots of books and they have all helped me fight back personal & professional setbacks & move ahead in life. Like Vibhas I too recommend that it works wonders to read a few pages every day before sleeping. The investment of time is worth the effort. Simple ones like ” The monk who sold his Ferrari” or “Notes to myself” are fine. They have always geiven me agreat perspective and helped me when I am down and I am very sure they would help you too. So Happy Reading!!!!!!! Enjoy All the best!

Ok, I’ve read all the comments. To my mind every occasion can completely change our life whether it is a book, a film or an acquaintance with an interesting person. You never know what will turn your life to 180 degrees. For example I came across a book “Change Ur Dating Life Forever” which contains tips and advices for guys how to attract a woman. As for me, a young guy brought up in a conservative Muslim family, this book was of real use. Check this out.
