Early MotherhoodIf there is one phase of life that I would like to relive over again, even though it was fraught with tensions of many kinds, it is early motherhood – the first days I spent with my children, now grown to adult size.

I know this may be a sentiment that young mothers struggling with diaper duties, sleepless nights and booster shot trips to the paediatrician may find it difficult to identify with, but I am saying it nevertheless. Early days with your child are when the mother child bond is forming for life. As you discover your child’s special and unique character minute by minute, day by day, you are conscious of navigating an incomparably precious and wonderful period of your life.

Money Matters in MarriageFew things cause as much friction as financial hassles in marriage. The earliest memory I have of discord breaking out in our family was over money disagreements. “I need money for today’s expenses.” “But I gave you money just yesterday. What happened to it?” And the scene used to be set for a very long and disagreeable argument that never got resolved between my parents as far as I can remember.

As a naïve adolescent I used to fool myself into believing that ‘when I grow up I will let love win over everything, including lack of money.’ Over the years however, I discovered through my own personal experiences and those of my intimate friends that money can make or break marriages and is easily the most volatile issue between husband and wife.

Tea: Black or WhiteThere can hardly be a beverage with as many ceremonies, rituals, history, and stereotypes associated with it as tea. In terms of the popular imagination, tea beats coffee any day, even though coffee is the number one drink in the United States. This is probably because tea is the staple beverage in two giant countries like India and China. The global importance of tea can hardly be over-emphasized.

So what’s the big deal about tea, you may be asking. Even as a cup of tea cools on your desk as you read this, you may be wondering what there is to discuss at length about this drink that punctuates your day several times daily. The truth is that tea has come back under the scrutiny of health experts after it has been discovered that its consumption has some valuable cardiac benefits.

Sarnath TempleGone are the days when we had to tailor our journey according to available links and connecting trains, irrespective of the inconvenience- it was a Hobson’s choice. Today the Indian Railway is planning trains and destinations and even the timings more like the marketing department of a MNC or consumer-oriented corporate entity would do.

And why not? If Indian Railway can catch the attention of IIMs and even Harvard, one would expect them to live up to the new brand image. After several successful launches of special trains to cater to foreign tourist and several more both for them and domestic ones – especially those on a pilgrims trail, this idea was just waiting to happen.

IT'S GOODBYEHIS STORY…

I can tell you exactly the day she decided it was over between us. After we had got married, it was if life had never existed for me before that.. We had loved, we had hated, we had lived…everything that could happen across the broad spectrum of marriage had happened to us. And through it all we had cared, trusted and understood each other. But one day the light simply went out of her eyes and I knew in my gut that she had simply switched off. Just like that. I could tell by the glow on her cheeks that there was someone in her life who had brought back the sparkle of romance in her life and that man… was certainly not me!
