Chennai 600028: Youth and Sport

SPB Charan has produced a Tamil film with an intriguing title – what could this film with a pin-code name be all about? ‘Chennai 600028’ is, as promised, a film about the lower middle class tenements of R.A.Puram, Mandaiveli and R.K. Nagar in Chennai, where life throbs and teems in a tight circle. All day and night I listen to the sound effects of this particular area – hand pumps and arguments over water, drinking sessions and loud singing or cursing, roosters and hens, dogs and cats, and the blaring of the latest Tamil hits from radios and cassette players.
Bheja Fry: Unlikely Hero

Vinay Pathak’s antics as Bharat Bhushan in Sagar Ballary’s film Bheja Fry, put the actor on par with established Bollywood veterans. His comic forte has been noticed earlier of course, as a veejay, and as a partner of Ranvir Shorey in the hilarious curtain raiser to the matches of the football World Cup last year. But with ‘Bheja Fry’, Vinay has really scored a century. Critics have remarked that he carries the film on his shoulders, and indeed he does.
Crossed Cables: The Maran Imbroglio

Recently, I was enjoying seeing Channel (V) at a friend’s house. As I watched the Hindi film promos, the programme featuring emerging rock bands, the general spoofs (loved a little film about how a baby got a cold on the first day after he was born and grew up to become Himesh Reshammiya!) I found my thoughts gently drifting to Dayanidhi Maran.
The young IT and Telecom minister, Dayanidhi Maran, is out of a ministerial job. The compulsions of family have led to the exit of one of India’s more visible and dynamic ministers in recent times – a man whose 60 watt grin was always adorning some poster or advertisement for an international tech event, and whose generous waivers of sundry telephone charges like STD tariffs and roaming fees earned him many supporters in the cellphone and talktime generation.
The Silent Wound: Celibacy in Marriage

Friends and family perceive them as a happy couple. While their not having a child may be upsetting his mother, they do seem to be suited after more than five years of marriage. Both are quiet, yet friendly, focused on professional growth, and still ‘chilling out’ at local nightspots together. There is no reason to doubt their ‘happiness’. And yet, this couple in their early thirties knows something all their friends and well-wishers do not. They make love less than once in six months. Sound unbelievable? There are more like them.
What Nails Reveal

Attractive hands making gestures as you speak are often a great asset to your overall personality. Clean and aesthetic looking nails are an important element of such attractive hands. Even though the days of overly long, nails painted deep scarlet may have receded into fashion history, beautiful nails attractively polished in trendy colours that range from cool blue to violet and salmon pink to orange and rust add a great deal to one’s overall ‘look’.
