e-loveThere was a time when people met their prospective spouses at parties, in colleges, at the workplace etc; they met at restaurants, clubs, parks and even libraries. Spent time romancing, holding hands and saying sweet nothings to each other. However, in the recent years the courtship scenario has undergone a sea change.

Nowadays, a large portion of people meet their future partners on the world wide web. Real windows where young people waited for hours to catch a glimpse of their loved ones has been replaced by Microsoft windows. The Internet has evolved from being a valuable source of information, to being a popular dating destination. Added to this are the large number of sites that offer online dating and social networking facilities.

Long hours in front of the computer is a part of most working people’s day. And the internet is the most easily accessible medium of communication. Hence, online dating has become very popular among the young tech savvy generation. From being a mere source of information and cheap means of communication the internet has graduated to becoming the most preferred match maker.

According to Radhika, a solicitor ,” I work for a firm in London. Hence, because of the time difference most of my waking hours are spent in front of the computer. So, I found it very convenient to date online. I was recommended a site by friends and after about three months of casual friendships (my husband however prefers to call it flirting) I met Shyam (the man with whom I finally tied the knot). Initially we did not meet physically and not for a moment did I feel that discovering love in the e-world was any different from those who meet and fall in love in the real world. In fact, dating online saves you the awkwardness that one might feel in a real social situation.”

Mridul a software engineers says, ‘I think for a shy person like me the internet was a blessing. I think I would have remained a spinster otherwise.”

Most people who go about finding love on the internet are of the opinion that e-love is here to say because it matches the modern day lifestyle and has great advantages over finding love in the social world.  This is best illustrated by what Prashant, a designer by profession has to say. He says, “ it’s probably the best way of meeting and interacting with people who you would never have met otherwise. People who you don’t encounter in either your business or social circles.
