Female body languageOn Valentine’s Day, my sweetie and I decided to have a low-key, take-out-and-a-movie night. We stopped off for Chinese and were nearly the only ones there. In the dingy eating area, there was a man probably in his twenties at a table waiting on his to-go order, and a young woman of about the same age waiting to place her own order. If this man had known how to read a woman’s body language, they could’ve saved a few bucks by combining their orders and gone home happier because, in the final hours of this equally loved and hated holiday, they may have found their own valentines. But how was the poor guy to know?

She came in looking cute but casual. She eyed his seated body from head to toe in a quick motion and then planted herself four or five feet away from his knees. In and of itself, this wouldn’t have meant much, but over the course of her short wait, she rotated her body inch by inch until she was basically facing him, with the counter where she’d order to her right.

To be or not to be a parent - that is the question

ParenthoodTo most of us the event that naturally follows marriage is childbirth. However, more and more young couples are not taking parenting as a natural occurrence and neither are they treating it casually with an attitude that says, one will learn to handle it “once the children come.” In fact, a surprisingly noticeable number of young couples are deciding against having children. While others are waiting to have their first child fairly late.

Take for instance Rohini and  Prashant. Both in their early thirties. Both were very successful in their respective careers. The couple have a common passion for dogs. They have two adorable dogs- Bruno and Bozo. And according to Rohini, “we have decided not to have children because we feel that given the kind of hectic schedules we have to follow we will not be able to meet the demands of parenthood adequately.”

Teen talkMy daughter and her friends are having an animated conversation. These young women in their twenties, all with educational degrees and work experience are comparing notes on what matters a lot to them – men and the infuriating things they do in relationships. Here’s a list of what they are saying are the annoying things men do:

“Everything!” (Kavita) This is greeted by loud laughter. While it releases tension, none of the women actually take this statement seriously. After all, would they be spending so much time discussing men and their ways if they thought men were all wrong for them? This point is only an ice-breaker, to be consigned to the trash can.

Email EtiquitteGone are the days when one waited patiently for the friendly neighbourhood postman to come by and hand you the heart of your beloved poured out on paper in the form of a letter. So, here are some rules that will make your email exchange a pleasant activity.

Love LessonsOur ideas of love and romance are shaped to no mean extent by the books we read and the films we see. While no sensible person actually expects life to be truly like a movie or a Silhouette or Mills and Boon romance, there are definitely many pointers from films we have enjoyed that remain in our memory and give us hope. Sometimes, these memories also contain hints for more enduring wisdom about life, love and relationships.

Here’s a list of inferences from some popular Hindi films that may strike a chord with your own views on love and romance.
