Butter murukkuIt’s that time of the year again when festivity is in the air. Besides, no festivity can be complete without sweets. And home made sweets is like the icing on the cake. No, don’t worry these recipes will not make you sweat in the kitchen for ours. So, here’s to today’s superwoman. A couple of recipes which can be made in a jiffy.

Butter Murukku

Ingredients:

  • Rice flour 2 cups
  • Carom seeds (ajwain) 1 tsp
  • Salt according to taste
  • Slatless butter ½ cup
  • Oil to deep fry

Method

Mix all the ingredients and knead into a smooth paste. The paste must be soft. Heat oil in a wock. When the oil gets hot lower the flame. Now put the paste in an icing bag and press it out into circles and deep fry till golden brown. Drain it out on a napkin. Leave to cool completely before putting into air tight containers. Will keep for about a month.

Cashew burfiCoconut and Cashew Burfis

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sized coconut finely grated
  • 1 cup cashew nut paste
  • 21/2 cups sugar
  • ¼ cup  desi ghee
  • ½ tsp cardamom powder

Method

Mix all the above ingredients and cook over a slow flame. Stir constantly. Keep cooking till the stuff starts leaving the sides of the pan. Then grease a plate and place the mix evenly on it. Wait to cool. Then cut into diamond shapes and store in a box. Keeps up to about ten days.

During the festive season it is but natural that even the strictly diet conscious will be tempted or at least wooed into savouring the various festive delicacies. And sometimes over indulgence or even moderate indulgence in these goodies may lead to some rumblings and grumblings in your tummy. A situation that is also known as heart burn or acidity.

Here are some simple and effective home remedies to combat this problem.

  • Mix quarter glass of cold milk with twice the amount of cold water and drink as soon as you begin to feel the sensation.
  • Chew some fennel or carom seeds and then drink a glass of water.
  • Crush a few mint leaves and drink the extract for instant relief.
  • Boil a few cumin seeds in water. Strain and drink the water.
  • Crush a small piece of ginger, mix it with a little jaggery and either suck it or swallow it with a little water.
