Guest ListWhat’s a wedding without people to share it with? This may seem an innocent enough question, but when you finally come down to the task of composing your wedding guest list, you’ll find that the query is a rather naïve take on the occasion. If you had your way, sure, you can pretty much invite everyone you can think of, even those who had the slightest pleasure of your acquaintance; but you probably won’t have your way, and if your wedding is on a budget, the list dwindles to a necessary few. But with a guest list of only a few people, you’ll probably hurt the feelings of those whom you left out. What should you do then? You compromise, in a no-nonsense way.

While it may be insensitive to talk about the food budget at such a special occasion, it is a stark reality that the more guests you have, the larger the food bill will be. You’ll have to trim down your list, even if only for that purpose. This keeps the invites manageable, while also reducing the dent on your wedding budget.

Wedding Photography“O! My God”, exclaimed Rita, “is that how I looked just eight years ago?” As she turned the pages of her wedding album. Amidst a lot of laughter and discussion the couple reminisced one of the landmark events their life.  Each photograph was like a moment frozen in time. A moment that never was and will never be again.

Long after the shehnai stops playing and the guests have left, the flowers have wilted, all that will remain are memories and photographs. That is why it is so important to choose a good wedding photographer.

The great photographer Paul Strands defined the fine art of photography thus, “It is one thing to photograph people. It is another to make others care about them by revealing the core of their humanness.” And that is precisely the kind of photographer that one needs to look for when the occasion to be photographed is one’s wedding.

Crowded marriageA crowded marriage usually means an affair by either spouse which need not be the case in many instances. A marriage does become crowded when there is an external factor intruding upon the privacy of the couple. This factor could be interfering in-laws on either sides or it could be an obsessive preoccupation with work (over ambitious or workaholic) or it could be plain indifference. Very often it is apathy on both partner’s part and their failure to invest time in the relationship that accounts for an unseen presence responsible for the failure of a marriage.

Vijayan and Madhavi is a recently married couple living with his parents. Madhavi resents Vijayan coming home late everyday and complains that he prefers to spend more time with his parents than with her. She grumbles, “His excuse is before marriage he had not spent enough time with his parents due to work. If that was the case why did he ever want to get married? He should have devoted his time to his parents rather than marrying and neglecting me.” She has a point.

CommunicationIn today’s world that boasts of state of the art communication technology, the communication between hearts seem to be taking a back seat. And it is probably this lack of effective communication that is leading to the weakening of bonds between couples.  Words as we all know have the power to lift us up, pull us down, wound us deeply or heal our hearts. They have the power to make or break confidences, strengthen relationship bonds or wreck them.

The well known English novelist Dinah Maria Mulock Craik described the absolute importance of communication in the growth and development of a relationship in the following words, “ Oh, the comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person, having neither to weigh thoughts or measure words, but pouring them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a fruitful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.’

There’s no use crying over spilt milk. Besides it will prevent bitterness.
