Brownies and PastriesMany people cannot afford a lavish four-course sit down dinner or a full buffet feast for their wedding or event. In most cases, the food and beverages are the largest expenses of a wedding or party. You need to consider the time of the day of your reception or party. The time of your event plays an important role in the type of menu that you are planning. Your guests will expect different types and amounts of food depending on the time of the day of your affair.

General Meal Times:

Breakfast 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Brunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Lunch 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
High Tea/Snacks 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Dinner 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Passed or Stationary Hors d’oeuvres 8 p.m. and later
Dessert 9:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

If you cannot afford a fully catered event here are some low-cost party ideas. Do not forget to serve beverages and wedding cake if you are getting married. Even the simplest of foods can appear special when presented with flair. In addition, time of year and the corresponding temperatures should be a large factor in menu planning. Generally buffets are cheaper than sit-down meals because the caterer has to provide less waitstaff.

Romantic eveningThe key to making a romantic evening special is to keep it simple. If you are running around making the food or lighting some candles it takes away from the romance. Keeping it simple will allow you to be more mellow and less worried about what lies ahead. Follow some of the tips below to ensure a romantic night.

It is a good idea to try to have everything ready before the special someone is scheduled to arrive. Be ahead of yourself in case they arrive early. Many of the preparations can be done ahead of time and will make the actual set up time less. For instance, you can set out silverware, tablecloths, glasses, candles, and flowers ahead of time. These are less things that you will have to worry about minutes before the person arrives.

The dinner should be simple and easy to make. Start with a Caesar salad and fresh dinner rolls. Follow with a something like pasta. Pasta is good because you can prepare it ahead of time and mix noodles and sauce together and bake in oven. This will entail you to eat leisurely and not rush through the first course. Pasta will not overcook in the oven and generally tastes better because the sauce will cook into the pasta.

Japanese WeddingJapanese wedding ceremonies can be either Buddhist or Shinto and are today usually followed by a western style reception. Modern weddings are absurdly expensive and can run to fancy price without too much effort. The most popular season for weddings is spring, particularly June and you often need to book places over a year in advance, especially if you are trying to book a ‘tomobiki’ day which is considered the most portentous day for a wedding. This day is calculated according to the ancient Japanese calendar and means ‘drawing friends’.

Arranged marriages

Even up until quite recently, marriages arranged by the parents of the child were not uncommon. A mutual friend often served as a go-between or matchmaker and the two young people met at specially arranged meetings to discuss their potential future and to meet each other. For many businessmen in particular, work, and getting to and from work, occupied so much of their time that they did not have the opportunity to meet partners.
