Sultry eyesAs the temperature dips this winter, the makeup trends heat up. Some of the top trends of the season are:

Emphasis on the Eyes

The eyes have gained importance for the winter. Two of the strongest trends are the ‘cat eyes’ look and the use of smoky, smoldering shades of eye shadow to create dramatic, deep set eyes. The ‘cat eyes’ look is achieved by lining the entire eye with a dark shade of liner, most often black, dark brown, or grey. The line is then extended just beyond the outer corner of the eye in an upward direction to give a look that’s very sultry and mysterious. This look is probably best played out for evening wear since it may be too overdone for the day. Smoky, dark shades of eye shadow are also the rage to complement the current winter fashion colors.

Apart from this, Purple is a top color this season. Gold, bronze and yellow eye shadows will be in for this season

Fuller Eyebrows and longer lashes

Emphasis on the Eyebrows and Eyelashes

The trend in eyebrows is towards a fuller, more natural look. Gone are the days of heavily plucked, thin brows. They’ve been replaced with full, thick, natural brows. To get this look, minimize the eyebrow plucking and allow previously plucked hairs to grow back in. If you have naturally thin brows, you can use an eye pencil to subtly enhance them, although don’t go overboard as penciled in brows can look unnatural. Lashes are fuller and longer than ever, complemented by multiple coats of dark mascara to play up the look of smoldering, sultry eyes.

Red Lipstick

Red is the shade for the Lips

The days of lip gloss are behind us and lipstick has emerged as the new trend for well dressed lips with the hottest shade of the season being red. Even if bright red is not your most flattering lipstick shade, there’s probably a shade of red lipstick that will flatter you. Reds are running the gamut from brick reds with brown undertones to plum reds with blue undertones. A bit of experimentation will determine which shade is right for you. Reds with tint of pinks & purples go well with the fair skin, for darker skins reds with brown & blue undertones will work very well.

Eyes or Lips, emphasis on either Eyes or Lips, But not both

With makeup trends showing strong emphasis on eye and lips, it is wise choosing one or the other to emphasis, not both. If you’re focusing on smoky, sultry eyes, choose a more muted, natural shade of lip color. If red lips are your focus, play down the eyes with a soft, neutral shade of eye shadow. The look is glamorous but not overdone.

This is the year to choose your focus, eyes or lips and really play them up in a glamorous, fun sort of way. Keep your makeup subtler for the day and pull out all the stops for evening.
