Fitness routineWedding is an important day and every bride wants to look perfect. Selecting a dress that will make you look perfect for the special occasion is one of the first things you want to take care of. But while choosing the dress you realize your trouble spots like love handles, saggy stomach or arms or flesh on all highlighting areas. There starts the trouble. But it can easily be taken care of by starting a regular fitness routine several weeks before the wedding.

A fitness plan to get in shape before the wedding
Note: Never choose the option of dieting close to the wedding as it will deprive your face of its glow. Instead, cut down on bad habits and exercise regularly. Start the routine at least six months before the wedding so that on the wedding day, you look perfect in that dream dress of yours. Make sure you plan a fitness regime with a proper trainer in order to prevent any mistakes.

DietGiven that each person’s body chemistry and eating habits differ, these are basic guidelines that can lay a good foundation for healthy weight loss. They apply to all brides-to-be.The best way to shed pounds is two-fold: cut back on calories and increase your physical activity. Calories fuel the body and unused calories are stored as fat.

How you lower that calorie count is key. The safe way to cut calories is by eating fewer foods high in fats and sugars - which are loaded in calories - while following a balanced diet drawing from all the major food groups. Besides being healthy, diets rich in variety are easier to stick to and therefore more likely to succeed over time.

According to the Dietetic Association, “all weight management programmes should at the very least include a gradual change to a healthful eating style with increased intake of whole grains, fruits and vegetables.” Eat less, exercise more. Sounds straightforward, doesn’t it?

InsomniaAn insomniac’s defition of insomnia is probably this- it is a waking nightmare. Anna recollects, “I wondered why is it that despite being so very tired I was unable to sleep. After allowing myself to suffer for a while I decided to make a conscious effort to get good sleep. And to my great surprise that did not work either. This took me to the doorsteps of my family doctor, Dr. K.V Mohanalakshmi. According to doctor Mohanalakshmi, “one’s preoccupation with the lack of sleep often comes in the way of a good night’s sleep. Because this makes one overly apprehensive and this causes stress.”

A fact that is mirrored by Sudeep’s confession. ‘The more stressed I get about going to sleep, the less likely I was to actually do it. Finally things came to a point where just the thought of having to spend another sleepless and lonely night drove me up the wall. I had never known that  the silence and the darkness could be so lonely that it hurt.”

Bridal dietIt is every woman’s dream to look her very best on her wedding day. And it is quite amazing that every woman irrespective of her size, complexion and height does look her very best on this very important day. Yet, in this age when “thin is in” the search for the miraculous bridal diet continues with new found fervor. A bridal body image survey for You & Your Wedding magazine revealed that 91% of respondents intend to lose weight for their wedding.

Before we let you in on this magical formula here are a few words of caution from MS. Moonmoon Bannerjee consultant dietitian at the Nanavati Hospital Mumbai, “ please do not plan to go on a crash diet just about a couple of weeks or a month before your wedding day and decide to lose 7-10 kilos. Be realistic about your goals. Avoid all rapid weight loss, quick-fix, fad diets such as retail diet pills like plague. Some of these will yield instant results as promised but, they will have a negative impact on your overall health. Do not opt for fasting or skipping meals.”

FruitsScientists have found a possible explanation for why fruit-eaters and vegans may gain protection against the spread of cancers.

They have shown that a fragment released from pectin, found in all fruits and vegetables, binds to and is believed to inhibit galectin 3 (Gal3), a protein that plays a role in all stages of cancer progression.

“Most claims for the anti-cancer effects of foods are based on population studies,” said Vic Morris from the Institute of Food Research. “For this research, we tested a molecular mechanism and showed that it is viable.”

Population studies such as EPIC, the European Prospective Investigation of Cancer, identified a strong link between eating lots of fibre and a lower risk of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. But exactly how fibre exerts a protective effect is unknown.
