Wedding MenuOnce a traditional wedding sapad (meal) meant the typical rice, sambhar, rasam, kootu (vegetable), pickle and papad served on a green banana leaf. Remember, scrunching your fingers in the lightly, flavoured scrumptious rasam rice liberally mixed with dollops of ghee or slurping on the milky tasty vermicelli payasam?

But, the wedding food once a sacrosanct and a pivotal affair in Indian weddings (given our obsession for food!!), has gone through a dramatic make-over.

Today, you can sample anything from pani-puris to ice-cream smeared dosas, colourful appalams scribbled with the names of the bridal couple, to healthy fruit juices and not-so-heavy sweets for the calorie conscious.

Wedding PlanningEvery woman desires to have the wedding of her dreams. May it be a garden wedding or a church wedding or a temple wedding, every woman dreams to have the most memorable and exceptional wedding that she can have. And why not? It is the event that binds her with the man she loves. Your wedding should therefore be well planned and necessitates some know how in wedding planning. Here are few things to remember when planning for your wedding:

Learn from others. Asking the idea of other people is a brilliant move for a bride to be. Getting input means asking other people about their experiences on their wedding so you will have an idea what and where to look for things you need. Your sister might be able to give you input on where to buy the best and most reasonably priced cake or an older brother might be able to recommend you to a very brilliant wedding singer. This also goes true with seeking for help and assistance on your wedding day.

Summer Make-upSummer is tricky in a tropical climate where you sweat profusely. Applying make-up during summer is even trickier and to prevent them from dripping from your face is the trickiest of the lot.

A bride must look her best on her wedding day. The aim of bridal make-up is that it should look good on photo. Contrarily, in most instances the bride’s make-up looks overdone in the photos. Here’s the point, you don’t need loads of make-up to look good. Just define your features accentuating your eyes and lips. On the whole a minimalist approach is the order of the day.

To be fabulous on your wedding day and for that ‘picture perfect’ look – a little planning ahead on skin care does wonders for you to look more than just good.

Avoid the whites – sugar, salt and refined flour. Sugar attaches to collagen fibers on the skin and makes it look saggy. Salt causes water retention making you look puffy and refined flour makes your digestion go haywire. Alcohol causes swelling and blotches skin.

DietGiven that each person’s body chemistry and eating habits differ, these are basic guidelines that can lay a good foundation for healthy weight loss. They apply to all brides-to-be.The best way to shed pounds is two-fold: cut back on calories and increase your physical activity. Calories fuel the body and unused calories are stored as fat.

How you lower that calorie count is key. The safe way to cut calories is by eating fewer foods high in fats and sugars - which are loaded in calories - while following a balanced diet drawing from all the major food groups. Besides being healthy, diets rich in variety are easier to stick to and therefore more likely to succeed over time.

According to the Dietetic Association, “all weight management programmes should at the very least include a gradual change to a healthful eating style with increased intake of whole grains, fruits and vegetables.” Eat less, exercise more. Sounds straightforward, doesn’t it?

Fat bridesAnu and Abhay (name changed) are seriously considering mutual separation. The reason- Anu cannot handle the constant digs that Abhay makes at her about her being overweight. According to Anu, “initially it was only when the two of us were alone. But now he doesn’t even hesitate to make such comments in public. I’ve come to a point where my self esteem is at an all time low. And I’ve begun to believe that there is no hope for me and certainly not for us.”

Other couples who heard the story had different reactions. One for instance said, “I think they’re doing the right thing. After all what’s the point in being in an unhappy relationship?” The moderates felt this was not reason enough to end a decade long marriage. And there were yet others who had similar stories to tell. The only difference being that, some of these stories had happily ever after endings.
