Forgive an affairIt depends on various factors. Firstly, will you be able to forgive and forget. Secondly, will the aberrant abstain from doing such deeds in future? Thirdly, will you as a victim be able to prevent withholding a grudge and resume normal marriage?

It is a complex situation further precipitated when children are involved. Assess what stage is the marriage in? How far the relationship is with either spouse or mistress? Affairs cannot be segregated as absolute black and white. There are shades of gray which need consideration.

This does not mean that an affair is permitted. “An affair is an aberration to normal behavior if we choose to exercise self control.” exclaims Latha Nithyanand, clinical psychologist and counselor. She explains that as long as we follow baser instincts then we use the mating needs to have an affair. Even in animals, sex is only a means of procreation. Human beings are the only species that employ sex for pleasure. Given such, “it is imperative that we use our discretion.” says Latha.

Guest ListWhat’s a wedding without people to share it with? This may seem an innocent enough question, but when you finally come down to the task of composing your wedding guest list, you’ll find that the query is a rather naïve take on the occasion. If you had your way, sure, you can pretty much invite everyone you can think of, even those who had the slightest pleasure of your acquaintance; but you probably won’t have your way, and if your wedding is on a budget, the list dwindles to a necessary few. But with a guest list of only a few people, you’ll probably hurt the feelings of those whom you left out. What should you do then? You compromise, in a no-nonsense way.

While it may be insensitive to talk about the food budget at such a special occasion, it is a stark reality that the more guests you have, the larger the food bill will be. You’ll have to trim down your list, even if only for that purpose. This keeps the invites manageable, while also reducing the dent on your wedding budget.

Second chanceWhat are the main differences between first and second marriages? Well, it might seem a simple enough question to answer but, as you delve deeper into the subject you will discover the contrary. For starters- all second marriages come with some sort of emotional baggage. Secondly, most come with children- both little and grown up. Thirdly, finance and inheritance. So, when put in a nutshell we can say that getting married a second time is far more challenging.

I remember how hard I had swallowed to get rid of that lump in my throat when I came to the part in Oliver’s Story where after spending the night with his new found love Oliver is sitting alone by the lake. His lady love puts his arms around him understandingly and says, ‘I know you’re feeling bad because you thought of Jenny (his wife who had passed away) when we were together last night. But it really is alright. I understand’. And while continuing to stare at the lake Oliver replied, “no I am feeling bad because I didn’t think of her.” Well, that is lesson number one, if you are contemplating starting a new relationship, do not look for familiarity. Because, no relationship can be replaced. Only new ones can be built. And comparing or looking for glimpses of the old relationship in the new one will only result in unhappiness and dissatisfaction.

Indian WeddingToday, one out of two marriages will end in divorce. Many people fail to ask themselves why they are getting married and end up marrying for the wrong reasons. Love, of course seems like the best reason. However, it is not. The best reason to marry someone is companionship. For a marriage to be successful, both partners must have a genuine companionship. Of course, there are several reasons why a couple should not get married even if they do have companionship.

People are born with a desire to be loved and give love. It can be the most fulfilling feeling in the world. However, marrying simply because of love is not a good idea. Yes, it may sound very romantic. In fact, it is one of the main reasons people get married. Love alone is not a good reason to get married.

Marriages succeed when there is a strong foundation of companionship built by the couple. A strong foundation for marriage includes compatibility, trust, and communication. Couples should ask themselves three questions to decide if marriage is right for them.

DivorceDivorce is never a pleasant experience. The emotions involved before, during and after divorce can be painful, confusing, complex and sometimes frightening.

Picking up the threads and moving on may seem like the most difficult thing to do and requires considerable effort and adjustment. We spoken to people who have had to grapple with divorce induced trauma - people who have emerged triumphant after the ordeal and are now leading more productive, fulfilling lives.

Actress Farha married Vindhu Singh, Dhara Singh’s son at the peak of her film career and happily threw it all away just to be the quintessential Indian wife. When things began spiraling out of control, she opted for a divorce after ten years of marriage. The decision left her with custody of her young son but minus a steady source of income and a roof over her head. She had to start from scratch.
