Women's perceptionWe call ourselves the most developed species; we have evolved over the past few thousands of years. Yet, some of the ways we function bear semblance to the way the Neanderthal man operated. One example of this fact is the way we choose our partners or mates.

According to the theory of evolution women’s primary concerns when it comes to choosing a prospective mate are social status, wealth, commitment to family and the desire to have children. They considered these characteristics important for building a lasting, long-term relationship.

Studies conducted in the field reveal that women still consider these traits important. Sunita (name changed) who feel in love with someone just because of the person he was and has recently filed for a divorce vehemently disagrees this research finding as she says, “I think one does not look for the first two factors(social status and wealth) when making a choice of mate but as life together goes on I guess these factors gain considerable importance.”

Interfaith WeddingEvery young man or woman has a mental picture of the kind of spouse he or she would want to have in the future. And interestingly, these images are very secular in nature. Almost everybody I spoke to used words like handsome, pretty, kind, understanding, fair, dark etc. But no one used words like Hindu, Muslim, Christian or Buddhist. From this it is clear that as human beings when we are looking out for a spouse religion or faith of the person concerned does not seem so important.

Yet, in the practical world this sometimes becomes a huge issue. Let’s take the case of Shivani. She fell in love with Attaullah when she was barely eighteen years old. Her parents were absolutely against the whole idea. So, Shivani  (who did not want to disappoint her parents) decided to wait till her parents agreed.

Friends ForeverYou don’t get to meet every day nor speak on the phone as part of your daily routine. May be it’s ages since you last touched base with each other.

The Power of HopeGuess what could be the worst scenario in life. Could it be not having enough money? Being jobless? Stricken by some serious illness?  Or losing someone near and dear? Of course each and every one of these situations could have a debilitating effect on our lives. But there is something still worse than all of these and that is a person without hope. When we lose hope, even the most fervent prayers, may take a long time to be answered because in our hearts what we are really saying is, “I’m saying this prayer but I don’t think I deserve to have this prayer answered.”
