e-loveThere was a time when people met their prospective spouses at parties, in colleges, at the workplace etc; they met at restaurants, clubs, parks and even libraries. Spent time romancing, holding hands and saying sweet nothings to each other. However, in the recent years the courtship scenario has undergone a sea change.

Nowadays, a large portion of people meet their future partners on the world wide web. Real windows where young people waited for hours to catch a glimpse of their loved ones has been replaced by Microsoft windows. The Internet has evolved from being a valuable source of information, to being a popular dating destination. Added to this are the large number of sites that offer online dating and social networking facilities.

Betrayal and its aftermathEverybody knew about Jasmine and Ravi. Though some people believed there might be more to it than meets the eye, the rest accepted that it was a beautiful, platonic friendship between a very lovely woman and a smart, intelligent man.

Jasmine was about ten years older to Ravi but his experience and understanding of life was infinitely greater than hers. So she depended upon him for most problems that she could not sort out on her own. One of her major problems concerned her husband. A chronic womaniser, he was also a very stingy man who showered his lovers with expensive gifts but refused to look after his wife.  It was Ravi who helped Jasmine get a job in his office and become a financially independent woman. “Don’t walk out of the marriage,” he advised. “Just make yourself a stronger person in every way.”

Friendship is...There was a cute nude couple, back in the 1970s, that was used to adorn popular merchandise like mugs and sheets, greeting cards and underwear. This was a series called ‘Love Is…’ Today, when friends are taking the place of family, and friendship is becoming the means to survive in the city for a lot of young professionals, this series can easily be re-written as ‘Friendship Is…’ Here are some of my definitions, and I look forward to some of yours:
