Dance pubMiddle-aged Divya was not surprised to find her neighbour’s son, twenty something Neeraj, in the night club on Saturday night. After all, this was the place where she and her contemporaries were a little out of place – where teeny boppers and Gen Next couples were usually to be found dancing the night away.

But while her initial greeting for Neeraj was full of neighbourly warmth, she was dismayed to find him getting overly friendly over the next hour as she tried to nurse a drink at the crowded bar. When he tried to get a little too close, urging her to dance, she decided to be the strict old ‘aunty’, and told him, “Nothing doing. Get a partner your own age.”

Being PatienceThe Three Little Pigs is an enjoyable story that a lot of us have heard or read in our childhood. Broadly, this tells the story of three brothers who have to set off from home into the big, bad, world symbolized by a wolf who can gobble them up. The first one, too lazy to search further, finds some hay and builds a house with it. The second one goes a little further and builds a house with sticks. Only the third one has the perseverance and tenacity to search for all the right materials with which to build a house, works hard to put them all together, and finally has a safe dwelling of stone and mortar, complete with a chimney.

The Sporting TemperamentA recent Tamil hit film called ‘Unnale Unnale’ made a certain kind of female character register in unforgettable ways with the audience. This is the kind of woman who is always angry about something or the other, intensely critical of her partner for doing all the ‘guy’ things like drink with his buddies, arrive late, tell white lies, or try and crack stupid jokes to cover up his faults. Played by the beautiful Sada on screen, this character grates so intensely on one’s nerves that one is tempted to walk out of the film – before the much sweeter-tempered girl played by Tanissha can actually win the hero! While you watch the repeated tantrums of poor Sada, one wonders – can any person be so unsporting, so petty, so lacking in humour?

Circles of WorryIf you do not yourself have noticeable dark smudges under your eyes, you will definitely know at least one friend or family member who does. Dark circles under the eyes are a common condition that afflict many, and cause people to turn away from their mirrors in despair. Like other long-term afflictions such as acne, prematurely grey hair, or baldness, dark circles can bring considerable grief to the person who has them, as people tend to notice, remark on their condition, and pass judgement on their lifestyle.
