Stress-free weddingIf you’ve ever been involved with the planning of a wedding, you know that the months leading up to the big day can be quite stressful. Grooms and brides are running everywhere, taking care of plans, ordering cakes, hiring bands, finding a florists, choosing the guest list, not to mention going through all the requirements–both legal and religious–they need to take care of in order to make the wedding official.

Families and friends of the bride and groom often chip in to help out with the duties and responsibilities, which only often adds to the stress, because they think the reception should be held at one place, the couple thinks it should be somewhere else. The arguments never cease, and everyone cannot wait until the magical day is over with.

That’s why it’s important for everyone who’s involved with wedding plans to take ample time to relax and de-stress themselves daily. Here are some tips on how to remove the stress from your wedding-filled life.

WeddingOk, you’ve found him.  It wasn’t easy, it took a lot longer than you thought, but finally Mr. Right did emerge from the sea of male faces, and now there’s an expensive rock sparkling on your finger.  After all that searching, you’d think it would be time to have some relaxation wouldn’t you?  Just enjoy being with this man who adores you and who you want to spend the rest of your life?  Unfortunately, that’s not quite going to happen just yet!

As soon as you announce the engagement, your life will never be the same again - unless you take control right from the very beginning.  That doesn’t mean that you become some kind of bride-to-be-tyrant, although it’s just possible that this might be called for at some point if people are having a hard time accepting that it’s not them getting married, but rather it means that you take control of deciding what kind of wedding you and your partner want.  A wedding isn’t an excuse for a family reunion.

It’s your special day.  The day you want to remember for the rest of your life.  And you need to have people hear how you want it to be!

InsomniaAn insomniac’s defition of insomnia is probably this- it is a waking nightmare. Anna recollects, “I wondered why is it that despite being so very tired I was unable to sleep. After allowing myself to suffer for a while I decided to make a conscious effort to get good sleep. And to my great surprise that did not work either. This took me to the doorsteps of my family doctor, Dr. K.V Mohanalakshmi. According to doctor Mohanalakshmi, “one’s preoccupation with the lack of sleep often comes in the way of a good night’s sleep. Because this makes one overly apprehensive and this causes stress.”

A fact that is mirrored by Sudeep’s confession. ‘The more stressed I get about going to sleep, the less likely I was to actually do it. Finally things came to a point where just the thought of having to spend another sleepless and lonely night drove me up the wall. I had never known that  the silence and the darkness could be so lonely that it hurt.”

Confort foodIt was just another regular day, except that Rita was feeling a little stressed out. As she settled into her chair she reached out for the candy bar. As she bit into the soft creamy bar she felt a surge of guilt which she quickly put to rest by telling herself that since she felt so stressed out that is what she really needed. Besides this is not something that she does all the time. Does that story ring familiar? Well then here are some doable, practical ways of beating the urge to nibble on those comfort foods.

The dictionary defines comfort foods as foodstuffs that many people turn to comfort food for familiarity, emotional security, or as a special reward. It has often been said that these foods are associated with pleasant childhood experiences and grown ups reach out such foods for reliving those pleasant experiences associated with the food. Some common characteristics of comfort foods are that they are simple to make (usually), and rich in carbohydrates and sugars.

There are many reasons for combating these cravings. The most important being that it can lead to a condition commonly known as “emotional eating”. This will lead to further, more serious conditions like extreme weight gain and depression.

ParenthoodTo most of us the event that naturally follows marriage is childbirth. However, more and more young couples are not taking parenting as a natural occurrence and neither are they treating it casually with an attitude that says, one will learn to handle it “once the children come.” In fact, a surprisingly noticeable number of young couples are deciding against having children. While others are waiting to have their first child fairly late.

Take for instance Rohini and  Prashant. Both in their early thirties. Both were very successful in their respective careers. The couple have a common passion for dogs. They have two adorable dogs- Bruno and Bozo. And according to Rohini, “we have decided not to have children because we feel that given the kind of hectic schedules we have to follow we will not be able to meet the demands of parenthood adequately.”
